The opt-in English beta can find information in emails, messages and photos, understand material on screen, and carry a request into another app. It shifts Siri from answering isolated questions to completing short chains of work on supported devices. Early hands-on accounts show what those chains can look like. In [T3’s June developer-beta testing](https://www.t3.com/tech/iphones/i-tried-siri-ai-and-the-new-apple-intelligence-here-are-my-initial-thoughts?ref=frontiermodels.com), Siri turned an emailed packing list into reminders, checked a calendar before drafting a reply and created recurring events. [TechCrunch’s experience across developer and public betas](https://techcrunch.com/2026/09/14/with-ios-27-im-actually-using-siri-again/?ref=frontiermodels.com) included finding useful iOS 27 features and adding them to a note. Those are individual successes, not repeated evaluations of reliability. [Apple’s current iPhone guide](https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/iphone/iphv6zwrg8jvfgr/ios?ref=frontiermodels.com) documents personal-information searches, questions and actions based on an onscreen image or PDF, and follow-up requests that lead to an action. Public-beta users [first gained access in July](https://techcrunch.com/2026/07/14/apple-opens-its-new-siri-ai-to-everyone-with-the-ios-27-public-beta/?ref=frontiermodels.com). [Apple’s activation guidance](https://support.apple.com/en-lb/127893?ref=frontiermodels.com) says eligible users must opt in and may encounter a waitlist. Their device and Siri languages must match in English, and their account must be registered in an eligible region. On iPhone, support starts with the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, plus all iPhone 16 models and later. Eligible tablets include the iPad mini with A17 Pro and iPads with M1 or later. Macs need M1 or later, or the MacBook Neo’s A18 Pro. Apple Vision Pro is also supported. Apple Watch Series 9 or later, Ultra 2 or later and SE 3 require a nearby Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone. Siri AI is unavailable to users under 13. The EU restriction applies to iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, so it does not prevent access on supported Macs or Vision Pro devices. Apple gives no date for an EU mobile launch. Siri AI and the other new Apple Intelligence features are also unavailable in mainland China. Eligibility does not unlock every enhancement: expressive voices and advanced dictation require a narrower set of newer devices. ## Some requests leave your device Apple built its new foundation models in collaboration with Google and technology from its Gemini models. Siri combines processing on the device with Apple’s Private Cloud Compute service for more demanding work. Finding personal information locally, therefore, does not mean the entire request necessarily stays on the phone. How Siri divides the work Apple says Siri’s Spotlight index, which helps locate information, and App Toolbox, which supports app actions, work entirely on the device alongside local AI models. More demanding work can use server models through Private Cloud Compute. Apple says its AFM 3 Cloud Pro model runs on Nvidia GPUs hosted in Google Cloud under Apple’s security software and verification system. Apple does not disclose the exact rules deciding which model handles each request. In its [Private Cloud Compute description](https://security.apple.com/blog/expanding-pcc/?ref=frontiermodels.com), Apple says relevant personal data sent for processing is used only to answer the request, is not retained and is not accessible to Apple. These are Apple’s security claims, not findings from an independent audit. The Siri app separately saves conversation history and syncs it through iCloud, so the cloud-processing promise does not mean that no conversation history exists. Cloud access also has limits. [Apple’s launch announcement](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/09/siri-ai-a-profoundly-more-capable-and-personal-assistant-is-here/?ref=frontiermodels.com) says server-dependent features, including Siri AI, face daily usage limits that vary with request complexity, demand and other factors. Apple publishes no fixed allowance there. It says expanded access will cost money in the future but gives no price or date. ## Useful enough to try, not trust Early testing shows why a successful demonstration cannot settle reliability. [WIRED reported](https://www.wired.com/story/siri-ai-hands-on-iphone/?ref=frontiermodels.com) a false landmark identification, hot-tub photos returned during a hot-pot search and an invented additional message recipient. T3 encountered missed email details and a failure to use an open WhatsApp chat. TechCrunch had difficulty directing Siri to the correct note. Most of those failures occurred in prerelease software. Some improved with extra context, another attempt or simpler names, and the small sample cannot establish an error rate for the shipping beta. Siri AI is best tried first on tasks whose results are easy to inspect, such as converting a list into reminders. Recipients and dates deserve a check before any consequential action. A mistaken answer can now become a mistaken message, reminder or calendar entry.
